FALL IS IN THE AIR

Florida is not famous for the fall smell in the air.  When you take a big wiff outside your front door, you don't smell that crisp cool breeze of leaves turning gold.  Here in South Florida, we smell the warm air and suntan lotion.  So... to create the fall feeling, go to the store and purchase your favorite autumn scented candle.  My choice is the Yankee brand, Pumpkin Pie.  What is your favorite way to celebrate the season?

New Laundry Room

Why is the laundry room the most boring place in the house? In our home, we walked through this room every time we went into or out of the house.  It was always an eye sore, until my husband bought me a new washer and dryer for my birthday.  On Monday morning, I walked into the room to do a load of laundry and realized that the rest of the room was not doing my beautiful chocolate brown laundry system any justice, so...
In 8 hours, I cleaned out the room, painted it bright blue, added white, tan, and brown circles on the walls, and put together an Ikea stainless steel folding table. I love my new laundry room.  What is even more amazing, is that my girls are doing laundry and liking it, at least for a while.

Lesson learned: It's okay to have some fun in your house, especially in a boring room like a laundry room.

Friends- An Answer to a Mother's Prayer

When my daughters were very young, I began to pray for them to be blessed with good friends in their lives. Friends that would build them up and make them better people. Friends that would add sparkle to their lives. On Brittany's 18th birthday, she was surrounded with two such friends. Nicole and Brittany R. have been Brit's buds for a year or so, and have been that answer to my prayers. Together they come alive. It is so cool to think that maybe, just maybe, my Brittany is the friend answer to these girls' mothers prayers.

Time to come home

We have been on vacation for two weeks. It is time to come home. Our family has enjoyed our time away and we are ready to come back to Ft. Lauderdale. We miss our puppy, our friends, our home and our church. I do want to give you a fish update. I wrote in my last blog about our beach house here in Ft. Myers and the tacky decor. You know as a designer, it is hard for me to not comment on certain unpardonable design mistakes. I mentioned that our rental home had been decorated in a fish motif, well, we counted them! I am happy to announce that after looking in every room in this three story home, we recorded 1,043 fish. Time to come home; no fish at my house.

Beach house tacky

Our family is in Ft. Myers celebrating my in-laws 50th anniversary. We arrived yesterday and I have had 24 hours to absorb the interior decor of our rental beach house. Let me tell you what I have learned. Sometimes you CAN have too many fish decorations. We are going to play a game later tonight to see just how many fish the kids can count. The first to get to 200 wins a prize.

As a set designer, I am reminded that it is easy to go overboard with a series theme. If your theme is "sheep and shepherd", for example, maybe 35 sheep on stage is alittle excessive. Less is best in most cases, or atleast be subtle. I think this decorator should have scaled it down a bit. Maybe I should hook them up with some design advice.

Stay tuned! Tomorrow we are talking lighthouses.

Getting in the MOOD

This series is called MOOD. It is a study of joy from Philippians, with a 70"s flair. This set was fun and banner heavy. The paper banners look like fabric with Scott's computer magic. The colors and lights bring amazing energy. This is one of those sets that is just fun to do because it conveys the visual joy that the teachings are talking about. to see the stage live and in action, check us out live at http://www.flamingoroadchurch.com/ and "Keep on Truckin'.

Stretch Fabrics!

I love stretch fabric. Do you realize that we used the same backdrop on our stage for the past 4 series topics. With the magic of lighting (Go Yoel) and some candle and rug changes (thank you Priscilla), we changed the look for each series with little effort. Way to go team.

Who am I?

Many of you know me as a staff member of Flamingo Road Church and the wife of a pastor. Let me tell you that those are two very important pieces of who I am, but there are many more that make me a unique child of God.
Did you know:
*I am a child of a minister.
*I was an average student.(below average in math)
*I went to Cosmetology school after HS, but didn't get my boards because I procrastinated.
*As a child, I suffered from asthma and was allergic to many things. Thanks mom for all the sleepless nights you rocked me back to bed.
*I met my husband, Allen, 26 years ago on the first day of college at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
*I am the second oldest of 4 children, two sisters and a brother.
*My dad is a twin; my mother-in-law is a twin; my father-in-law is a twin.
*I played softball as a girl (and was not horrible.)
*I collect dirt from every state and many countries.
*I was an elementary school teacher for 19 years.
*I have been on every diet invented.
*As a HS student, I performed at Disney's Christmas Candlelight services.
*I played violin, flute, and handbells.
*I worked at Wet and Wild, County Seat, and Arthur Treachers Fish and Chips.
*Our family almost moved to Japan to become missionaries, unfortunately, my asthma stopped those plans.

That is me in 15 factoids. Hope you enjoyed learning something about me. God Bless.

new post! - new set!

We have been working hard trying to keep up with the demands of set changes. I am thrilled at how our last set turned out. We used stretch fabrics, purchased at rosebrand.com, and added amazing lights to them. To create a soft, organic feel, we covered the stage with bamboo sticks, wicker and grass pots, and candles in glass vases with black river rocks. Check it out.
